Hamish Orr and Maree Gately are the installation team behind Fit Joinery (est. 2007). They offer joinery installation services to businesses in the Greater Wellington region, Horowhenua, Palmerston North and Wairarapa.

Hamish is a fully qualified joiner, trade certified with years of factory and installation experience both here in New Zealand and Australia. Maree has a joinery background including kitchen design, as well as running a features department for The Northern Advocate (so she is used to juggling projects and tight deadlines). She started working with Hamish as a favour for three months, seven years on she is still installing joinery.

Both originally from the winterless north, they have spent the last 11 years travelling the North Island working predominantly on large commercial projects including townhouse developments, childcare centres and retirement villages. Their work has seen them relocate several times, but six years ago little did they know that their next move to Waikanae beach, would be their last.

"Our move to the Kapiti Coast was meant to be temporary, while we completed two large projects - but we fell in love with the place," says Maree.

And with a new decade upon them, they decided a new direction for Fit Joinery was needed.

"We wanted to have more time at home - being away 6 months of the year was hard, so we felt it was time for a change. Our goal now is to build relationships with a number of local businesses, so that we can provide them with a consistent, high calibre joinery installation service that they can rely on," says Hamish.

Hamish and Maree understand the hesitation some businesses may have about handing over the installation of their kitchens and joinery to a contractor, but they believe it can make good business sense.

"If you are looking to grow your business, often sub-contracting is the best option as it enables your team to increase sales and manufacturing capabilities, by not losing any of them to site work. And with the challenges that come with installing, it makes sense to use a team, like Fit Joinery who are qualified, has the experience and will go the extra mile to get a good finish, every time," says Maree.

Fit Joinery has built their reputation on being exceptionally good at what they do, and for being reliable - this saw them become the preferred installer for the North Island, for one of the country's largest retirement village operators.

"It is funny, but we were even given the nickname 'The A-Team' as project managers and foreman knew that when we were on-site, they were going to get the best job done, on time - and they did not have to worry about the quality and service they got from us. I think it took a lot of stress out of the job, knowing that they could rely on us - that they trusted us. And we are talking about large volumes of work. We installed hundreds of kitchens, kitchenettes and commercial joinery for them - and we never missed a deadline." says Maree.

Now that Fit Joinery are here to stay - they are looking forward to cementing new business relationships and are looking ahead to another busy year.
