Meet Kirsty Glasgow from Framed Alive

Kirsty, the founder of Framed Alive, a business where passion, plants and creativity, intertwine to produce living art in frames.

”My green thumb was being nurtured from when I was very young, when my Mum and Dad owned a nursery in the UK and grew plants for Covent Garden markets in the 1970's. “

“Over the years I learnt the Latin names of many plants as they were dotted through general conversation. In later years when moving from flats, houses, cities and islands and then becoming a Mum, my plant collection dwindled through sheer lack of attention over time.

Years on with my family grown, I have rekindled my love for plants and started propagating succulents.  This quickly turned into a hobby.  I started researching plants like those that help clean the air in our homes, different species of succulents and their colourful habits and tillandsias, also known as air plants. I then started my collection. finding the most unusual colours, textures, form and species.  I had the idea of selling these plants, then Framed Alive was born.

Once established, I would like to bring an element of community into my business by having groups of people in their more senior years, those with dementia and people who are differently-abled, come and potter, plant seeds, make planted arrangements and just be, taking in the smells and sounds of nature in our garden. I know how valuable spending time like this is for one’s wellbeing, and I want to be able to share what we have with others. Over time, I would like to offer employment to some of those who enjoy coming to my workshops and may not have the opportunity to work elsewhere.”

At Framed Alive, we produce living art, with the majority of our frames boasting stunning designs made from succulents. Plants are arranged into repurposed items such as windows, picture frames or even shoes. Because of this, some frames have imperfections, that we have not tried to fix, as it adds to the overall character of the finished product.  If this look is not to your liking however, we are happy to accommodate you buy finding or making a frame that suits, so please contact us if this is the case. The frames can be displayed indoors or out and are a great choice for bare fences or walls, creating a point of colour and interest to what is often an otherwise unused area.

Designs can be customised to suit your personality, purpose, colour and style and make great gifts, especially for those who “have everything”.

All frames are easy to care and are an awesome option if you have little time for gardening, but still want some wow factor in your outdoor space. For complete novices, they come with care instructions.
