Gail Mylne of Mixed Media Design takes us through her process for creating the brand and stunning logos for clients.
Gails latest project included creating the logo, business cards and social media images for Antevasin Architecture.
“I am delighted with the business branding that Gail at Mixed Media Design has created for my architectural practice. Gail's process captured all of the relevant aspects of my business and design philosophy and it was a pleasure to work with her in developing the early concepts through to the finished branding. The branding works so well for me, as it truly encapsulates my design philosophy and what it means to be an Antevasin. I now have the files, fonts, images and style guidelines I need to apply her branding design to my business marketing and documents. Thank you, Gail” - Spencer Crocker - Antevasin Architecture
The Process - Gail Mylne
It was a pleasure working with Spencer Crocker on his new branding project for Antevasin Architecture. I met with Spencer to discuss his branding project and went through my discovery questionnaire where I have prepared questions that enable me to find out about his business and his expectations of what the brand needs to achieve.
From this I was able to establish the brief to work to, which was:
1. To design a new logo and brand styles, for Antevasin Architecture an architectural design company based in Paekākāriki on the Kapiti Coast. Designing new builds, additions and alterations, turning houses into homes!
2. The brand for Antevasin Architecture needs to represent its core values which aim for homes to be: efficient, healthy, beautiful, social and affordable
4. Main target market is a broad scope of clients, including people ready to get a fit for purpose, personalised home design
5. Point of difference for this business includes international experience and specialising in establishing: wants - needs, likes and dislikes of clients.
6. It is a professional business and the brand needs to represent this. The brand needs to be progressive and innovative. It needs to classic and orderly, something that will be fresh but also stand the test of time.
7. The logo will be used to establish the basis of the brand. Business card, files for the website and social media are first priorities
8. Colours initially to work with are red, black with the possibility of including green
9. Ideas discussed: concepts including buildings/city alongside bush/ferns. Showing the contrast between structure and the lawlessness of nature. How the environment influences how we live.
The process involved designing (at least) 3 different concepts showing variations on ideas. From these Spencer chose which concept he preferred. I then went on to develop this concept further. Trying different fonts and positioning of the graphics. Different background images of the ferns were looked at. As the design was in nearing its completion Spencer sat with me while we did the final tweaks. He was able to let me know what little changes he preferred straight away which eliminated the need for back and forth proofs.
The final results work well! With a brand that reflects the nature of his business. He has been supplied files that he can use for his stationery, social media and website. Files that can be used for ALL marketing material which will be consistent and will reinforce the brand.
All the best Spencer for your business success!
